Starting point
A company was under negative coverage. Monitoring captured the headlines reliably, but not what happened afterwards: the debate moved into forums and communities and continued there long after the coverage had faded. Where the damage was actually being done was therefore unknown.
Approach
A read across channels, forums and social platforms alongside the media. The carrying narrative was named and then separated: legitimate criticism on one side, false claims on the other. From that, a communication strategy with rapid response.
Use cases
- 01 Spillover detection Where the debate continues once the headline has passed.
- 02 Cross-channel read Forums and communities alongside the media, not instead of them.
- 03 Rapid response Where an answer to a false claim lands: which debate, which outlet, which moment.
Outcome
The blind spot closed. What became visible was that the swing was not in the monitored media at all, but in the communities where the discussion ran on unchecked and hardened. More important than the volume was the separation: criticism that needs a substantive answer against false claims that need a correction. The two call for different responses, and either one answered in the wrong place only amplifies it. The response could be placed deliberately, in the right channel at the right moment, instead of broadly and late.
What is next
The channels the spillover ran through stay under watch. Rapid response is in place so the next narrative is not noticed only once it reaches the media.
